Man killed in Toronto shooting: Reports

Multiple shots reportedly rang out in Toronto's downtown entertainment district Friday and local media reports say police have confirmed one person is dead. Police say the shots were fired in what is being called a drive-by shooting.

"We have reports that one car pulled up to another, opened fire, and then took off," Const. Victor Kwong said Friday. Multiple witnesses told officers that "upwards of 10 shots" were fired, Kwong said. Kwong said investigators are looking for a silver car — either an Infiniti or a Lexus.

Several media reports say police later indicated the man who was killed was in his 20s and they are looking at surveillance video and trying to find witnesses to find clues. Meanwhile, Kwong said Ontario's police watchdog the Special Investigations Unit is probing a police shooting in northwest Toronto. Officers responded to a call about an emotionally disturbed 31-year-old man armed with knife, who "may have been mixing alcohol and prescription drugs," he said. "There was an altercation which led to officers shooting the man," Kwong said. The man was taken to hospital but Kwong said he didn't know the man's condition. The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
