Man Charged With Trying To Burn Down Ex-girlfriend's Home
The furious firebomber, 21-year-old Joseph Ferrufino of Baldwin, tossed a wine bottle fashioned into a Molotov cocktail at the house Tuesday when four people were at home — the 20-year-old
ex-girlfriend, Abbygail Gonzalez, her 13-year-old sister and their mom and dad, according to the criminal complaint.
The younger girl suffered cuts to her foot from broken glass, and the mother endured first-degree burns on her leg, but no one was seriously injured.
Neighbors saw the family running from the house in the morning without shoes as flames poured from a second-floor window, Newsday reported. Officers found Ferrufino about half a mile away from the house, after Gonzalez's father chased him.
“I feel sorry for the family and I didn’t know this was going to happen,” the defendant’s mother told CBS New York. “My son never said nothing. I’m sorry.”
She said the couple broke up two years ago.
“It's about boyfriend and girlfriend, she was calling him,” Ferrufino told the television station. “He was talking to her before, like two days ago, three days ago.”
