UConn student charged after falsely reporting terror threat on campus to get out of class

Nicholas Ryan, a UConn student was arrested after falsely reporting a terror threat on campus to get out of class.

The 22-year-old, told campus police a friend had spotted three men carrying large black duffel bags into a classroom. He then claimed that one man was not carrying his bag when they left and that that his friend was "freaked out" by what she had witnessed.

Police rushed to the scene on the morning of Thursday Dec. 3, and quickly determined there was no threat or suspicious activity in the area.

When questioned, Ryan admitted he’d made the whole thing up hoping that the building would be evacuated and he would not have to attend a class there later that day.

Ryan was charged with first-degree falsely reporting an incident and second-degree breach of peace.

He was issued a $100,000 surety bond and will next appear in court on Jan. 5, 2016 in Rockville Superior Court.
